KEVIN TUER is Managing Director of the Canadian Digital Media Network and Vice-President, Digital Media for Communitech. For the past fifteen years he has held several engineering and senior management positions in the high tech industry. Kevin started his career as a Senior Research Engineer at Computing Devices Canada (now General Dynamics Canada) where he worked on the development of several next generation military products. He moved on to become the VP Engineering of Control Advancements, a Waterloo based company that incubated and productized University based technology. Kevin went on to become the President of Alliance Technologies, an engineering services firm, which provided a range of electrical, mechanical and software development services to local businesses. Prior to joining Communitech, Kevin was a co-founder and CTO of Handshake VR Inc., a company that specialized in the creation and deployment of touch interactive and networked-enabled touch interactive applications. In February 2008, Kevin joined Communitech as CTO-in-Residence at Communitech as part of the Venture Support Group, which is responsible for providing mentorship and coaching to early stage companies. In April 2009, Kevin was named the Managing Director of Canada’s Digital Media Network and VP Digital Media. Kevin holds a BASc (Honours) in Mechanical Engineering, a MASc in Mechanical Engineering, and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Waterloo. He is listed as an inventor on 4 issued patents and 5 pending patent applications and has authored more than 20 technical papers, conference papers and industry whitepapers. Kevin has been an Adjunct Professor at the University of Waterloo in the Department of Engineering since 2001.
