John Riley is President of Astral Television Networks and Astral Télé Réseaux where he is responsible for the operations of the six pay, specialty, and pay-per-view services grouped under Astral Television Networks: The Movie Network (including the HBO Canada multiplex), Mpix, Family (including the Playhouse Disney Canada multiplex), Viewer’s Choice, Super Écran and Cinépop.
From 1996 until this appointment in 2001, John served as the founding President of TELETOON, the highly successful animation TV channels in English and French. Prior to TELETOON, he served as Vice-President, Business Affairs for Family Channel. John joined Family Channel as Legal Counsel prior to its launch in 1988 and handled all legal, business and regulatory matters involved in launching and operating the network.
John is past Chair of the Canadian Satellite Users’ Association and has previously been a Board Member and President of the Canadian Society of Copyright Consumers and a Board Member of the Audio-Visual Preservation Trust.
Currently, John is a member of the Law Society of Upper Canada and holds a seat on the Board of Directors for the Canadian Film Centre.
