Jessie Gabe
Originally from Montreal, Jessie Gabe began her entertainment career at Just for Laughs, where she worked as an industry coordinator and professional schmoozer for two seasons. On the side, she began studying acting and started writing for local newspapers. But a tendency toward humor and an overactive imagination was interfering drastically with the ethical code of “honest reporting.” It was then that she discovered the world of script writing.
In 2006, Jessie relocated to Toronto to further pursue a career in the film and television industry. Not long after, she co-founded local sketch comedy troupe Fade to Brown, in which she served as head writer and portrayed with flawless accuracy the “Token White Girl” in the South-Asian troupe’s innumerable sketches. The troupe performed regularly at local comedy clubs and the experience culminated in a sold-out performance at Toronto’s prestigious Panasonic Theatre and a pilot deal with OMNI Television under the guidance of Floyd Kane (producer, This Hour Has 22 Minutes, The Guard).
In 2009, Jessie was afforded the opportunity to work as the script coordinator on CBC’s Being Erica, season one. Season two, she returned to Being Erica as writer/story editor. Jessie is set to begin writing for season three imminently and is currently developing her own shows.
