Prime Time in Ottawa - February 17 - 19, 2010

The CFTPA thanks the delegates who attended the annual Prime Time in Ottawa in February 2009 for their contributions as our organization celebrated our 25th anniversary. We would also like to thank our panelists, speakers and partners who help make the conference a success every year.

This year’s conference was also the first paperless conference of its kind in the world—and by all accounts a tradition worth building on next year.  Each delegate who registered received an Apple iPod touch to keep, replacing the traditional delegate bag.  With the device, delegates were able to follow the most up-to-date conference program, find their way around the conference floor, participate in social networking, and view the many videos and publications that were uploaded especially for this event. The CFTPA believes the use of this innovative device has set a new standard against which all other conferences and trade shows around the world will be measured.

The conference opened on Wednesday February 18th and featured the 2nd annual Indie Awards—hosted this year by comedienne Cathy Jones of the award-winning comedy show, This Hour Has 22 Minutes.

Some of our keynote speakers included Minister of Canadian Heritage, The Honourable James Moore; CRTC Chairman Konrad von Finckenstein, and Darren Throop, CEO of E1 Entertainment.

Our panelists explored the state of the industry, New Media and the issue of Canadian content, the potential of the international marketplace, and the upcoming Broadcaster license renewals, as well as the future of the Canadian Television Fund, to name a few.

Over the years the CFTPA’s Prime Time in Ottawa conference has grown to become the premier, must-attend national networking event for hundreds of Canada’s most prominent business leaders, decision-makers and policy experts in the television, film and interactive media production, distribution and exhibition sectors, as well as the broadcasting and telecommunications industries.

We hope to see you February 17 - 19, 2010 to celebrate the production industry and participate in the major forum for industry partners to meet, exchange views and do business.
