Hands-on Production Training for Filmmakers

Ottawa, May 12, 2010 – The Canadian Film and Television Production Association (CFTPA) is proud to announce the return of its successful training initiative, the Telefilm Producer Trainee Program. The program, in its fifth year, will once again offer six placements across Canada with a focus on creating professional development opportunities for filmmakers of visible minority or Aboriginal backgrounds.

“The Telefilm Producer Trainee Program is a much needed initiative that gives minority producers a greater presence in the production industry,” said Susanne Vaas, VP of Business Affairs, CFTPA. “We are pleased to continue working with Telefilm Canada on giving these filmmakers a chance to develop their production skills.”

“This is a unique program and is perfectly aligned with one of Telefilm’s objective to give members of visible minority groups and people of aboriginal descent the opportunity to gain hands-on production experience," said Agnes Zak, Regional Director Business Development, Telefilm Canada. "We are very proud to be associated with this trainee program because, through the one-on-one mentoring approach, it creates exceptional professional development opportunities for future generations of producers.”

The Telefilm Producer Trainee Program is currently accepting applications with the deadline set for July 19, 2010. For application details and eligibility, visit www.cftpa.ca/mentorship .

The CFTPA is a non-profit trade organization that works on behalf of almost 400 companies engaged in the production and distribution of English-language television programs, feature films, and interactive media productions in all regions of Canada.
