Telefilm Producer Trainee Program Returns in 2009

April 14, 2009, Ottawa – Telefilm Canada and the Canadian Film and Television Production Association (CFTPA) are proud to announce the launch of the Telefilm Producer Trainee Program for 2009-2010. In its fourth year, the program promises to once again offer invaluable one-on-one training and professional development opportunities to six deserving individuals. 

The Telefilm Producer Trainee Program will place six emerging and mid-level producers with CFTPA member companies across Canada. The focus of these placements is on direct involvement in producing while creating professional development opportunities for filmmakers of visible minority or Aboriginal backgrounds.

“This program has been a true success from the very beginning. It has provided  trainees with the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects which have drawn wide acclaim, from  Little Mosque on the Prairie to Canada’s Top Ten short film The Colony, and Serveuses Demandées, just to name a few, ” said Susanne Vaas, VP of Business Affairs, CFTPA.

"Telefilm Canada joins the CFTPA in its commitment to developing the skills of industry professionals," stated Agnes Zak, Interim Regional Director, Business Development & Regional Executive, New Media. "Together we are proud to dedicate resources to provide opportunity and market intelligence to emerging producers."

The CFTPA is a non-profit trade organization that works on behalf of almost 400 companies engaged in the production and distribution of English-language television programs, feature films, and interactive media productions in all regions of Canada.
