ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES CFTPA INDIE AWARDS
Call for Submissions Deadline October 15, 2008
Ottawa, August 20, 2008 – The Canadian Film and Television Production Association (CFTPA) is pleased to announce the 2008 CFTPA Indie Awards is accepting entries from all Canadian producers. The awards were created by the CFTPA in order to recognize and honour the outstanding achievements of Canadian independent producers. The Awards will be presented at a ceremony in Ottawa on February 18th, 2009.
Awards will be given out in the following eleven categories: Best Children's and Youth Programme or Series; Best Comedy Programme or Series; Best Convergent New Media; Best Documentary Programme; Best Documentary Series; Best Feature Film; Best Lifestyle or Reality Programme or Series; Best Mini Series; Best Prime Time Drama Series; Best TV Movie; and a special Jury’s Choice Award.
“With the CFTPA Indie Awards, the Association demonstrates its ongoing commitment to the promotion, support and celebration of excellence in the field of production,” says Guy Mayson, President and CEO, CFTPA.
“As last year’s awards demonstrated, it continues to be important to shine the spotlight on the quality of television, film and new media production in Canada,” says Sandra Cunningham, Chair, Board of Directors, CFTPA. “Canadians have a lot to be proud of, and together with the Board of Directors, we cherish this opportunity to showcase the hard work and creativity of our producers over the past year.”
“The Indies were created by producers for producers,” says Mary Young Leckie, CFTPA board member and champion of the creation of the Awards. “These second annual Awards are an opportunity for producers to feel proud of the important work they do to promote Canadian culture at home and abroad.”
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
Rules and Regulations and Entry Forms are now available at www.cftpa.ca. The deadline for submissions is October 15, 2008.
The CFTPA is a non-profit trade organization that works on behalf of almost 400 companies engaged in the production and distribution of English-language television programs, feature films, and interactive media products in all regions of Canada. More specifically, it promotes the general interests of its members provincially, federally, and internationally; negotiates and manages labour agreements with guilds and unions; administers copyright collectives; trains new industry entrants through seven national internship programs; and undertakes a number of other specific initiatives that help increase awareness and enhance communication within the Canadian and international production communities.
