MAYSON TO HELM CFTPA
Guy Mayson has officially been appointed to head the Canadian Film and Television Production Association; he has been acting president and CEO since September 2003.
"We are thrilled that Guy has accepted the position. With the industry facing critical funding and financing challenges the association believes Guy's experience and background will lead to innovative solutions for independent producers," said Laszlo Barna , CFTPA chair and president of Barna-Alper Productions.
"Our goals are three-fold: We need to fight for additional funding and improved tax credits for Canadian content and service production. We need Canadian audiences to have access to Canadian-made shows and films during prime time and in the theatres. And we need to build an entrepreneurial environment that makes the production industry an attractive investment." said Mayson.
As executive vice-president at the CFTPA Mayson directed the association's film policy and tax agendas; he was also instrumental in moving the CFTPA into international circles - expanding co-production initiatives and promoting production relationships with other countries. Mayson joined the association in 1997, after a productive career in the federal public service. During his stay at the departments of Communications and Canadian Heritage in the late 1980s and 1990s, Mayson worked with the cultural industries sector and helped develop the Canadian Film and Video Production Tax Credit, the Production Services Tax Credit and the Canadian Television Fund. Prior to his life in government Mayson worked as a freelance writer, director and producer in the production industry.
The CFTPA is a non-profit, trade association representing almost 400 companies in the Canadian production industry. The association promotes the general interests of Canadian producers by lobbying government on policy matters, negotiating labour agreements, and offering mentorship programs and copyright initiatives .
