MCDONALD TO LEAVE CFTPA AFTER LABOUR DAY

After eight years of championing the concerns of film and TV producers, Elizabeth McDonald has announced she will be resigning her position as president and CEO of the Canadian Film and Television Production Association to pursue other interests. McDonald will be stepping down as of August 31, 2003.

“The CFTPA’s success and growth can be traced directly back to Elizabeth,” said Julia Keatley, CFTPA chair and executive producer Keatley Film. “We will definitely miss her drive, enthusiasm and perspective.”

McDonald joined the non-profit trade association in 1995 when it had a total of four employees. With over 20 people on staff, the association has expanded its offices in Toronto and Vancouver and opened one in Ottawa. And its membership has tripled. “The association has truly become a national organization under Elizabeth’s stewardship,” said Keatley. “She is one of the reasons producers have a stronger voice in Ottawa – she has given credibility to the production industry’s issues.”

McDonald is considered a veteran in the communications industry. Prior to the CFTPA she worked at the Canadian Cable Television Association, the Canadian Association of Broadcasters and the CBC. Currently the secretary of the board for the Canadian Retransmission Collective, she also sits on the board of governors for the Banff Television Foundation.

The association will begin its search for a new CEO in June after the Banff Television Festival.

The CFTPA is a non-profit, trade association representing almost 400 Canadian companies involved in the media content production industry. With offices in Ottawa, Toronto and Vancouver, the association promotes the interests of media content producers by lobbying government on policy matters, negotiating labour agreements, offering mentorship programs, copyright initiatives, and producing industry publications.
