CFTPA Banff Awards Go to Zimmer and Winkler
The Canadian Film and Television Production Association is pleased to
announce entertainment insurance broker Arthur Winkler is the winner of
its Jack Chisholm Award for Lifetime Achievement, and IMX°s Chris Zimmer will be receiving the Chetwynd Award for Entrepreneurial Excellence. The awards will be presented in Banff next Wednesday during the Banff Television Film Festival.
Winkler has been a driving force in the insurance business since 1949 and exclusively in the entertainment sector since 1985 when he formed Arthur Winkler Entertainment Insurance Broker Ltd. After the business tripled over the next three years he joined forces with Albert G.Ruben & Co. in Los Angeles, New York and London to form Ruben-Winkler Entertainment Insurance Ltd. in Toronto where he served as president. In 1994 Aon bought the operation, Winkler remained president of Aon/Ruben-Winkler until this past year. He now serves as an exclusive consultant to the company.
Halifax°s Chris Zimmer is known for producing provocative and intelligent films such as Margaret°s Museum (Helena Bonham Carter, Kate Nelligan), The Divine Ryans ( Pete Postlethwaite, Robert Joy)and New Waterford Girl (Andrew McCarthy, Cathy Moriarty). He also happens to be an expert in putting together feature film and co-production deals, which is why he°s picking up the entrepreneurial award.
Winkler and Zimmer were chosen by past winners of the awards. The awards will be presented next Wednesday, June 12, 12-2 p.m. in the Cascade Dining Room of the Banff Springs Hotel. Telefilm chair Richard Stursberg will also be speaking at the event.
