CFTPA's comments on the Application by Câblevision du Nord de Québec Inc. (CNQ) for a broadcasting undertaking licence to operate a general interest video-on-demand (VOD) service [Broadcasting Notice of Public Hearing CRTC 2006-7]
The CFTPA recommends that the CRTC deny this proposal and stipulate that CNQ, if it is awarded a licence to operate a video on demand programming undertaking, be required to adhere to the same obligation in this regard as other VOD services. We oppose the requested changes to the standard conditions of licence for VOD undertakings.

CFTPA's comments on a proposed exemption order for mobile television broadcasting undertakings
The CFTPA supports the CRTC’s proposal to include an exemption condition relating to prior authorization provided the Commission strengthens the wording of that condition to ensure that mobile phone companies do not gain access to content on a compulsory licence basis under the Copyright Act.

CFTPA calls for a five-year commitment from the government for feature film and increased public assistance to promote growth, innovation and to compete for bigger audiences. The association also emphasizes that English-language features are under-supported relative to the English-language audience and population in Canada given the overwhelming competition from American films.

CFTPA Presentation Before the Standing Committee on Finance
In pre-budget discussions before the committee, the CFTPA calls for protecting all film, television and new media programs during the current expenditure review exercise. The association focuses on five key points: increasing the return of the federal tax credits; renewing the CTF; renewing the Canada New Media Fund and Canadian Culture On-line Program; renewing the Canada Feature Film Fund; and improving the corporate financing mechanisms for production companies.
